Wiki Whai Hauora: a week of nurturing student wellbeing

Every semester, our Student Wellbeing team hosts Wiki Whai Hauora, an entire week dedicated to promoting health and supporting the physical and mental wellbeing of our students. During this special week, our team of Student Wellbeing Ambassadors and Student Clubs collaborate to curate a lineup of enriching and relaxing events, all aimed at helping our students find balance and take a moment to care for themselves

Wiki Whai Hauora offers a plethora of opportunities for students to recharge and rejuvenate before the semester’s end. It’s the ideal time for students to reconnect with friends, engage in some light physical activity, momentarily disconnect from their responsibilities and simply unwind. The demands of student life can sometimes be overwhelming with assignment deadlines and exams approaching. Wiki Whai Hauora has been thoughtfully crafted as a gentle reminder for students to slow down and prioritise self-care during these stressful periods, ultimately contributing to their overall wellbeing.

This year’s highlights were nothing short of incredible, with events such as Carnival Spectacular – a carnival-style event complete with carnival-themed food, games and entertainment. We also hosted multiple DIY-themed events where students decorated mugs and potted plants. Additionally, there were numerous free breakfasts on campus to ensure our busy students had a nutritious start to their day.

One of the most beloved events this year was the inclusion of ‘Dogs on Campus’ where we invited therapy dogs onto campus. This event provided students with the opportunity to spend time with registered therapy dogs, offering comfort and stress relief. Overall, we achieved a record-high number of events for Wiki Whai Hauora this year and there was significant engagement from our diverse student groups, with many clubs and faculties hosting their own events throughout both semesters.

It was truly heartwarming to witness our students actively engaging and taking much-needed breaks from their demanding schedules to recharge and reconnect.
